Personal papers of experimental physicist covering the years 1958-1999. The collection includes correspondence, reports, memos, drafts of articles and books, news clippings, autobiographical sketches, teaching materials, and videotapes documenting York's involvement in the development of the nuclear arms industry and especially in negotiations concerning nuclear disarmament. Major correspondents include Hans Bethe, James Killian, George Kistiakowsky, I.I. Rabi, Jerome Wiesner, and Victor Weisskopf. Accession processed in 2000 contains photocopies of declassified cable messages, correspondence, reports, and other documents concerning York's role as ambassador and chief negotiator to the Comprehensive Test Ban treaty. The accession processed in 2004 contans additional writings by York, correspondence from his appointment as ambassador to the Comprehensive Test Ban negotiations, and research materials for his book RACE TO OBLIVION.
